Arben Bajo (1967 – 2020) was an Albanian sculptor and lecturer at the Academy of Arts in Tirana, known for his work in contemporary sculpture.

His pieces often explore themes related to human form, nature, and societal issues. Bajo is recognized for his innovative approach, blending traditional techniques with modern aesthetics. While not as widely known internationally as some other artists, he has made significant contributions to the Albanian art scene.

In addition to his sculptural work, Arben Bajo has been involved in various exhibitions and projects, both in Albania and abroad, helping to elevate Albanian art and culture in global art circles. Considered to be the Albanian version of the French sculptor Auguste Rodin.

He was born in 1967 in Gjirokastra, completed high school in Fier, while studying sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana (1988-1992). From 1992 until 2008 as many other albanians immigrated to Greece working in different projects and collaborating with Mpenaki Museum and Acropolis Museum. In 2008 returned in Albania as a lector of Sculpture class in the University of Fine Arts in Tirana.

At the age of 53, he loses the battle with Covid-19. His death in 2020 marked a significant loss for the Albanian and international art communities. Bajo’s legacy lives on through his sculptures, which continue to inspire and provoke reflection. 

Post mortem he was honored by the President of the Republic of Albania, with the title “Grand Master” with the following motivation:

“In recognition of his great artistic qualities, exceptional talent, and invaluable contributions to contemporary Albanian sculpture.”
